Mangrove forests are well-known for their vital role in sequestering carbon, reducing flood risks, providing food security, and improving water quality for coastal communities. What is less widely recognized is that over 50% of mangroves and the critical ecosystem services they provide are facing the threat of collapse. This endangers 2.1 million people on the frontlines of the climate crisis and puts $36 billion worth of property at risk. The destruction of these forests could also release 1.8 billion tons of carbon stored within them, exacerbating the climate crisis.

I've just returned from Brazil where we launched Ambition Loop Brazil under the leadership of Marcelo Behar, the COP30 Special Envoy for Bioeconomy.  On our long car journey to visit the Natura facility we talked at length about the need for ‘action agendas’ to help drive collaborative problem solving and capital deployment.  Two of the COP30 Presidency's priorities are to drive investment in the bioeconomy and in adaptation and resilience solutions.  I’ll come back to the bioeconomy with Marcelo soon but for now I wanted to share some reflections on how to drive investment into resilience.
